Cllr Turner and Cllr Simpson (both Denby Dale, Labour) spent a couple of hours of their weekend on Wakefield Road in Scissett cutting back obstructions which were overhanging on the pavement and reducing visibility, between Busker Lane and Highbridge Lane.

The visit from the Kirklees Council Greenspaces Action Team, which was hoped to deal with issues like these, was unfortunately cancelled due to staff being redistributed to tackle Covid-19, so Cllr Simpson and Turner decided get their hands dirty and tackle the problem themselves.

The councillors plan to do more sessions at problem spots around the ward, including near ‘Pigs in the Wood’ and in Clayton West in the coming weeks.

A recent session by the councillors had to be cancelled due to the weather, but the councillors state that they will be out volunteering their time again once the weather allows.
