Denby Dale councillors announce new fund for local schools

Denby Dale’s Labour councillors have announced the creation of a new fund to support Eco-Schools work in the Denby Dale ward

The proposal came from the Climate Emergency Working Group chaired by Cllr Simpson, which was accepted by the Parish Council.

Cllr Simpson commented on Facebook:
I am very pleased that we have established an annual £1,000 grant fund for our local schools to support environmental work, led by local pupils, to progress in the Eco-Schools programme and gain Green Flag accreditation.
I recently met with Keep Britain Tidy, who run the Eco-Schools programme, who described our new fund as ‘exceptional’.
In our Parish we are uniquely placed with a Countryside Officer who has previously led in work on the Eco-Schools programme and continues to be an Eco-Schools assessor, who can support the schools in this work.
With the support of the Parish Council, the establishment of the Eco-Schools Grant Fund will ensure that local schools have the resources and support available that they need to deliver environmental improvements at their schools and in our communities.
We will be liaising and working with our local schools directly, but if you are a local teacher, school governor or parent interested in getting involved, please don’t hesitate to get in touch at countryside@denbydale.com.
Cllr Turner, who is also a member of the Parish Council Climate Emergency Working Group, commented that he was ‘delighted that we have established a new fund for local schools to support environmental work, led by local pupils, in our parish’.
